Man, what a tough question.
For a long time, romantic love and marriage had nothing to do with each other. People married for financial or political or other pragmatic reasons that had nothing to do with romance. It was purely a choice.
Today, we get to marry based on how we feel – and that’s a win!
But the tricky thing about feelings is that they change. Sometimes being happy and in love is as easy and natural as stretching when you first wake up in the morning.
Other times, well, it’s not.
It’s a habit – a habit of giving the other person the benefit of the doubt. Forgiving. Having difficult conversations. Making jokes. Creating joy. Going on adventures.
I always think the decision of who you marry is the most important decision you make. But is it a decision at all?
I think love is both: a feeling and a choice.
